Marisa Guzman’s approach to Yoga encourages students to honor and accept their bodies as they are. “Yoga is a way to create a sacred space to find peace within yourself. It allows you to take care of the self, which in turn allows you to take better care of others. You should give Yoga a try if you’re looking for a way to restore, rebalance and rejuvenate body and mind” Marisa’s students have a sense of peace, gratitude and well-being after class. “They often say ‘I feel great. I needed that so badly.’”
The word Yoga comes from Sanskrit “Yuj-connection,” which means the connection between the body and mind and breathing. It is because of this connection that Marisa decided to become a Yoga instructor. “After a few months of practicing Yoga every day I began to sleep better and my digestion, concentration, flexibility and posture also improved. I decided to get the training I needed to teach others Yoga.” She received her instructor certification from the Yoga Institute of Houston in 2009. Marisa is the Saturday morning RYT 200 Registered Yoga Teacher at International Dance Studio. She also teaches at other health centers throughout the Lake Area.
Besides teaching Yoga, Marisa is also a bookkeeper for Big Easy Foods in Lake Charles. She enjoys reading, decorating cakes, doing Zumba, dancing salsa and sweating in a Hot Yoga class.
