Donna “Kealohilanikahokualiiokalani” Pierce

INSTRUCTOR, TROUPE LEADER: HULA HALAU NA 'OLELO 'O KA PU'UWAI

With a passion for people, dancing and teaching, Donna “Kealohilanikahokualiiokalani” Pierce has been instructing students for 30 years. Throughout her lengthy career she has taught Language Arts, twirling, and high school dance line. What’s more, she was also a librarian.

At present, she is one of the certified Polynesian Kumu Hula instructors at International Dance Company. Donna says, “I love what I do. I became an instructor to promote my love of dance to others.”

Although some students find her class hard and demanding, she asserts the many benefits of the class. “Polynesian dance students will learn more than how to move their hips. They will learn the language, culture and history of the Polynesian people."

When she is not reading or spending time with her 3 grandchildren, she is volunteering at the Southwest Louisiana Veteran’s Home and the Jennings American Legion Hospital.
